things I do
- mathematical modeling of biological systems
- use fortran, c++, r, and python to implement numerical schemes, write scientific codes, and visualize data
things I would like to do
- "big data"
- inverse problems
- solve other interesting problems (do you have one?)
things I used to do
- teaching / pedagogy (stem-focused)
- web application development (js, css, html, php, mysql, other trendy technologies du jour)
places I've been
University of California, Merced
PhD candidate (Applied Mathematics), 2012 - present
5200 N Lake Rd, Merced, CA 95343
I am generalizing a standard model of prion replication to account for yeast-specific enzymes, proving things about and solving resulting the integro-PDE system, and coming up with biological predictions to be tested by our experimental collaborators.
Air Force Office of Scientific Research
Assistant Program Manager (Mathematics, Information, and Life Sciences), 2008 - 2012
875 N Randolph St, Arlington, VA 22203
I helped manage and execute over $60 million in basic research funds annually on behalf of the Air Force in areas of applied mathematics and computer science. I learned the business of science and found that some business problems could be as interesting as mathematical problems -- I received many awards for streamlining processes and saving thousands of "man-hours."
Master's student (MS Mathematics and Statistics), 2009 - 2011
3700 O St NW, Washington, DC 20057
I completed a non-thesis masters with coursework primarily focused on statistics. I studied both frequentist and Bayesian techniques, with emphasis on statistical consulting and providing insight into real data.
Undergraduate student (ScB Mathematics, AB Education Studies), 2004 - 2008
Brown University, Providence, RI 02912
I was an undergraduate student. My ScB was in pure mathematics (emphasis on algebra and analysis), but I completed a good deal of coursework in applied mathematics and computer science as well. My AB was specifically in human development (psychology, cognitive science, sociology, etc), as it applies to education. The AB also had me complete coursework in policy and policy analysis.
I like to say that I know a little about a lot and a lot about a little. I am a good communicator, learn fast, and love working on interesting and hard problems. If you need someone like that, you should email me.
